The second Festival was named ‘Glastonbury Fayre’ and was held during the Summer Solstice. Organised by Andrew Kerr and Arabella Churchill, the vibe centered around a medieval approach to music - with dance, poetry and theatre - a direct opposite to the other ‘over- commercialised’ festivals of the time. Free entry and food to some 12,000 punters was funded by a raffle of John Lennon etchings and saw performances by Hawkwind, David Bowie and Fairport Convention.

You forgot the best band that played - Accrington Stanley. (I never saw them again).
Have never been to Glastonbury again after such a brilliant experience

I remember bits of this, especially melanie at dawn. Other highlights include a triangular rainbow light appearing in a clear blue sky and an ice-cream vendor getting caught up in the spirit of the occasion and giving all his ice-cream away.

I too remember that rainbow. Best music for me was Terry Reid with David Lindley. Thinking back, some of those freaks in the crowd were a bit theatrical. Maybe a few posh folk were putting it on to blow provincial minds. Never mind, those were the days and anything seemed possible. Love to all.
