I can remember taking my sisters hendix LP (sorry sue) and getting a track played as a memory to Jimmy. Unforgetable experience.

I went with several friends from Bristol on the Saturday night because The Kinks were 'playing a free festival' in Pilton. The Kinks were a no-show but I remember a very hippy band called Tyrannosaurus Rex (how things were to change). As I recall, Michael Eavis wandered up to us and asked us if we were OK, which was very nice, as we hadn't paid. He said it was OK.

I first went to Glastonbury in 1997 and then went every year until 2006 when I started teaching and couldn't get time off to go:( It is my most favorite place in the world!! Especially sitting under the tree by the stone circle. My husband proposed to me on that spot and I wrote my dissertation about the festival's 'Communitarian Spirituality', interviewing Michael Eavis and got a First-Thanks Michael!!! :)

I would be good to see how many others went to the first one on here and get more photos of this event posted to the Glasto site. You see plenty of the latest but very few of the very first. Love to see how I looked then.

1970 was the 2nd Glastonbury, the 1st in 1969 was called the Glastonbury Folk Festival. I was there as a teenager. Im pretty sure there was one biggish Band of the day, it all happened in the local school and village hall.

Barclay james harvest along with local dj Mike Carter (who still lives a couple of miles from the site) played in 1969. I cant remember the school or hall being used but i know that a trailer was parked in one of Mike Eavis feilds on which the bands played.

my sister and i were at the first (1970) festival, we are the two children chasing each other other through the crowd on the film clip the BBC use, our father took us there to get out the house, my youngest sister who did not go gets very fed up of this story.
