Worthy Farm, Pilton

Time for Ice Cream

New York experimentalists Battles made a welcome return to Worthy farm with a new album and one less band member in tow.

The departure of Tyondai Braxton sent the band in search of a guest or two, with Blonde Redhead's Kazu Makino, The Boredoms' Matias Aguayo and Gary Numan stepping in to lend their vocal talents to the intricate rhythms and layered sounds of 2011's Gloss Drop. The new work remains as dynamic and exciting as 2007's Mirrored, which made Saturday's John Peel Stage appearance a must watch set.
