Alex Carapetis

Biography

Alex Carapetis (born 1982 in Adelaide, Australia) is a professional drummer, having been playing since the age of eleven. After studying jazz at the Adelaide Conservatorium for one year in 2000, he moved to Sydney in order to further his music career. In 2004 and 2005, Carapetis toured full-time with Jimmy Barnes in Australia and New Zealand. In July 2005, Alex toured with Delta Goodrem on Delta's Visualise Tour. Other artists with whom he has worked include Ian Moss, Diesel, Nathan Cavaleri, and Teenager (Nick Littlemore from PNAU).

In October 2005, Trent Reznor hired Carapetis to be the touring drummer for Nine Inch Nails due to incumbent drummer Jerome Dillon's health problems. His appointment came as a surprise to many fans, as he was not widely known before this time and had not previously worked with Nine Inch Nails. As of the KROQ Acoustic Christmas show in December, Alex was replaced by former fill-in drummer, Josh Freese.

He's currently the touring drummer for Julian Casablancas and will accompany him on his tour in support of the new album, Phrazes for the Young.
