Biography

Steven James Hewitt (born 22 March 1971) was the drummer for the band Placebo between mid-1996 and October 2007. He was born in Northwich, Cheshire, England. Prior to joining Placebo, Hewitt was a member of various bands such as Electric Crayons, K-Klass, The Mystic Deckchairs, Boo Radleys and Breed. He also worked as a session musician. Like previous drummer, Schultzberg, he also plays drums left-handed.[citation needed]

He met band member Brian Molko through his then-girlfriend. Although he appeared on some early demo tapes for Placebo, he wasn't able to join the band at first due to prior commitments to Breed. Placebo then earned their record deal with replacement drummer Robert Schultzberg. Later, as Breed broke up, Schultzberg was departing from Placebo so Hewitt accepted the invitation to join Placebo permanently.

On 1 October 2007, it was announced via the official Placebo website that Steve Hewitt had parted company with Placebo due to personal and musical differences.

His new band is called Love Amongst Ruin and the debut album of the same name is due to release in 2010.
