FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
Customising the mobile homepage

  • How can I customise my BBC mobile homepage?

To add, remove or reorder topics such as news, sport and entertainment click the 'Customise your homepage' link which appears near the top of your homepage.

Use the minus buttons to remove topics from your homepage. You can add them again, whenever you like, by using the plus buttons.

You can change the order of topics on your homepage. Click the 'Reorder your homepage' link near the bottom of the 'Customise your homepage'.

You can also edit individual topics - for example changing the weather to show a three-day forecast instead of just today's forecast, or adding football to the sport topic. To do this click the 'Edit' button in the title of the relevant topic on the homepage. You can also use the 'Edit' button next to the relevant topic on the 'Customise your homepage' page.

To get local news, weather and televisions schedules, you need to set your location.

You only need to set your location once and there is a link to the 'Set Your Location' page in each topic which offers local information. You can also do it through the 'Set your location' link at the bottom of the 'Customise your homepage' screen.

  • Why I can't see the customisation and editing options?

The customisation service we offer won't work on all mobile phones. Instead, these handsets will get a version of the site which offers a range of the latest content from the BBC Mobile site. It's updated just as often as the customisable version but you won't be able to change the kinds of content you see on your homepage.

Customisation isn't yet available for the international version of BBC mobile, but we plan to add this later in the year.

  • How can I get local information?

You can set your location in order to get local news, weather and television schedules. Choose the 'Customise your homepage' link, then 'Set your location'. Enter a UK place name or the first half of a UK postcode. If there is more than one result for your chosen area you will be asked to select which one you want.

The content shown on your homepage is for the nearest weather, news and television region to your chosen location.

Please note that your weather forecast will be the nearest available forecast if one isn't available for your specific town - find out why.

You can only set one location for your homepage - ie. you cannot have local news for one place and weather for another.

  • How can I change the topics that I see?

Choose the 'Customise your homepage' link. To add or remove a topic, click the relevant plus or minus button. You can also reorder the topics by using the up and down arrows. When you're happy with your changes, click 'Save'.

  • Can I see more from my favourite sections?

Yes, you can get extra news and sport on your homepage and add the latest news in areas such as business, technology, football and Formula One.

You can add up to five news subjects and five sport subjects to your homepage. Click the 'Edit' button beside the news or sport title to see which extra subjects you can add.

You can also choose to display news about your favourite football team - choose the My Club option, then select your team.

You can also choose between today's weather forecast or a three-day weather forecast - click the 'Edit' button on the weather title to access the weather customisation page.

If you want to change the television channels and radio stations shown on the homepage, you can do this too. Just click the 'Edit' button in the television or radio section to change your selection.

  • How do I get my favourite topics to the top of the page?

Choose the 'Customise your homepage' link. Use the up and down arrows to move the topic sections into the order that you want, then select 'Save'. The BBC promotional area at the very top, which highlights new or topical content, can't be moved.

  • Can I check the weather without changing my homepage settings?

Yes, you can look at the weather for other places. Just click the 'Change location' link in the weather topic on the homepage and you'll also get the option to visit the weather site and look up a location without changing your homepage settings.

  • Why does my homepage tell me the forecast for my town is for another place?

The Met Office produces a certain number of forecasts for the UK. We then work with them to fill in the gaps to provide forecasts for more towns and all UK postcodes. Where there isn't a forecast available for your specific town, we will give you the nearest available forecast.

  • How can I let you know what I think about the page?

We welcome any feedback you have about the Mobile homepage. To send us your thoughts please use the feedback form.

  • Where can I get help about topics other than the homepage?

  • I'm having problems customising my homepage on a Blackberry, what can I do?

If you are using a Blackberry and are having problems customising your homepage, go to settings on your phone, choose browser settings and ensure that:

    'Support JavaScript' is on.

'Terminate slow running scripts' is off.

'Allow JavaScripts pop ups' is off.

If your Blackberry gives you the option, please also ensure that 'Support stylesheets' is on.

  • My customisation settings won't save, what can I do?

    Try the following:

    • delete your BBC bookmark/shortcut
    • empty the cache & history
    • clear cookies
    • check that javascript is enabled
    • then try customising your homepage again.
