Caller ID

Caller ID is a special feature which enables you to see the name/number of the person who is calling you.

Carrier

Wireless carriers are the network operators who provide you with your mobile service e.g. Vodafone, T-Mobile, Orange, O2 etc

Cell

The area served by a base station. Wireless networks are made up of cells which overlap each other.

Codec

Codecs convert audio and video data from uncompressed and compressed formats. Compressed formats offer smaller file sizes and make it possible to send and receive AV content over wired and wireless networks. Codec is an acronym for coder-decoder.

Compatibility

This is a term used to indicate that two devices use the same protocols and are able to 'speak' to each other i.e. they are compatible.

Cradle

A piece of hardware that is plugged into a PC, and into the mains, which holds a PDA or mobile phone, creating a physical wired connection between the computer and the mobile device. It is used to charge up the battery and synchronise files between devices.
