Gangs

Britain's teens are being torn apart by violence and gang culture. Intrepid presenter Garron Mitchell wants answers, and his investigations lead him into some of LA's toughest streets. He also sees whether a stint of national service with the Swiss Army could be the solution.

Along the way he embarks on a quest to rehabilitate the public image of Britain's youth. Which is where the Goodie Hoodies come in...

Whose gang would you like to be in?

When we were hoodies we always got bad looks from people, but no 1 wants to know when u asked them to help young adults. They would rather put more police on the streets then spend a bit more time with youngs adults and work with them and give them something better to do than hang on the streets.

Your programme highlighted what I have always told my kids, that newspapers are the worst for hypeing up stuff today. Kids need a identity and places to go and things to do. The gov just doesn't seem to care and it really gets my goat.

I think its really great what you are doing. Teenagers are looked at as being so bad, and only a small amount actually are.

People now just dont give teenagers a chance. We need to spread the word that teenagers are good!

As a teenager i used to be in alot of trouble from the age of 8 or 9. As i started to go to secondary school i didn't get any better if not worse, but i have now realised why do i need to cause trouble and mess peoples lives up for a bit fun. I don't really know how i changed but im glad i did and would never go back that way. So all u teenagers out ther jus think of things before you do anything, and turn your lives around!!

A big part of the problem lies with the government decision makers who say they're gonna make change but actually ignore those like the Goodie Hoodies. Teenagers need to be appreciated and invested in!

Kerry Leat, United kingdom 2008-09-23

Goodie Hoodies is the gang for me. I always get labeled as a thug because I have a mohican hairstyle and tattoos. But if people took time and really looked at me. they'd see my tattoos are to do with peace and tranquility and that I'm usually wearing clothing to do with saving the oceans.

Keatman, Church Lawton, Cheshire 2008-09-23

I would definitely support the Goodie Hoodies, the reputation of young people in my surrounding area is just not on because its bringing down the rest of us who are genuinely good people.

How can kids feel they have a future when they can't see beyond the slums, what do they have to live for? They need hope, something to believe in, a chance to change. How can they when no one is willling to help, when the government turns their backs and just complains, and gives false promises!

Craig, Bradford 2008-09-23

The Goodie Hoodies, for the simple reason I am sick of all the bad press we get. Just because I'm a teenager who wears a hoodie does not make me a criminal or someone to fear. you never look at a man wearing a shirt and tie and imediatly think he a con man so why are teenagers all tarred with the same brush?

ClaireBear, Reading 2008-09-23

Finally some people care! Ive had enough of people thinking that all teenagers are criminals or killers! Truth is, we're not! Thanks for doing this, shame more can't be done as some idiots out there dont care or can't believe we're not all bad!
