"I've always loved sport. Winter afternoons in the park playing football....summer weekends battling round an athletics track. So getting the chance to turn my passion into my profession was a dream come true," says Nick. "I've been very lucky to commentate on some huge sporting occasions like the League Cup final between Birmingham City and Liverpool. Covering the world indoor athletics championships in Birmingham in 2003 was another big thrill and I was honoured to be chosen to report live on the arrival of President Clinton in the city for the G8 Summit!" Nick is a big athletics fan and was delighted to act as a mentor for Olympic heptathlon champion Denise Lewis when she took her first steps into broadcasting at Midlands Today. "Everyone in the office and out on stories loved Denise and she was so enthusiastic about the job." Nick still plays football and never having had much pace in the first place didn't have much to lose.
