Big Picture scoops award

Good news for everyone involved in the Big Picture project, which has been celebrated for helping people in the Midlands connect with art and culture.

Thousands of people from across the Midlands contributed to the Big Picture project, which was aimed to gain a snap-shot of life in the Midlands.

Altogether we collected a staggering 112,896 pictures to create the world's biggest photo album and set a world record.

The photographs, which were kindly donated by our viewers were then made into a huge mosaic, depicting the winning Midlands image.

The whole project was recently honoured at the Jaguar Land Rover Awards for Arts and Business. The Big Picture won the Cultural Branding Award - which recognises the ability to attract new fans to art and culture.

It's estimated the project encouraged at least half a million more people to go to art galleries across the Midlands.

The Big Picture also inspired tens of thousands of people to share their photographs - and of course we broke a world record - so thanks very much for all your help.

The completed mosaic, which measured 30 metres by 30 metres went on display at Thinktank, Millenium Point in Birmingham.

It was then dismantled into panels, giving the opportunity for contributors to grab their very own piece of the record breaking picture.
