Colin got his grounding in journalism from his local papers, The Hinckley Times and The Leicester Mercury.

After spending ten years in print, in 1981 he moved across to Centre Radio, the original Independent Local Radio Station in Leicester.

Two years later, he joined the BBC, spending five years at BBC Radio Leicester, before moving to the West Midlands as News Editor of Radio WM.

In 1989 he joined Midlands Today.

Colin, who specialises in reporting general news, feels privileged to have a job which puts him on the front line of news events.

"Whether it's down coal mines, flying helicopters, on the streets with the homeless or interviewing the Prime Minister, my job is to be your eyes and ears and to ask the questions you want answering."

And if he can make it entertaining as well as informative, he's happy.

Colin has witnessed some pretty appalling sights, like the M42 in March 1997... the burnt out wreckage of 33 vehicles which caught fire after a massive pile up in early morning fog involving more than 160 cars, vans and lorries.

Three people died and 60 were injured.

But the job has it's lighter moments too, like being pushed down a hillside earlier last year inside The Zorb...a massive plastic ball.

For about a minute his life turned head over heels and left him wondering if this is what they mean by rolling news.
