After studying journalism at Cardiff University, Giles worked for several independent radio stations before joining the BBC.

It was his Mum's love of Radio 4 that set Giles on a career in broadcasting. "It was always on at home when I was a kid - the Today Programme, Woman's Hour, The Afternoon Play" he says. "I loved the immediacy of the news and imagining the faces behind the voices."

After reading English at Oxford and a year in Spain teaching English he did a Journalism course at Cardiff. This helped him get a job on independent radio in North Wales where in search of a scoop he blundered onto a farm infected with anthrax! "It turned out everyone else was sensibly behind the cordon - the farmer was livid."

From there he went to Radio City in Liverpool and later BBC Radio Shropshire before joining Midlands Today.

Since then there have been stints on BBC Northern Ireland, The World Service, Countryfile, Inside Out and presenting Farming Today on Radio 4.

His family moved to Hereford when he was ten, where he soon became a regular at Edgar Street. However, he owes his real football allegiance to his earlier days in London.

"My Dad took me to Highbury when I was seven and it's been The Gunners ever since. I've interviewed Prime Ministers and celebrities but meeting Charlie George a few years ago rendered me speechless!"
