Banijay Productions France, a Banijay Group company, and BBC Worldwide Productions France will co-produce the classic game show The Weakest Link for French DTT channel D8.

The new commission marks the return of the format to French screens after a successful six-year run on TF1. It will launch under the French title Le Maillon Faible, with well-known French journalist, TV and radio personality Julien Courbet (Sans aucun doute) presenting.

BBC Worldwide has licensed the The Weakest Link format to over 40 countries as far flung as Turkey, USA, Mexico, Malaysia, Azerbaijan and Australia. The UK version, which appeared on BBC Two and ran for over 10 years, has aired in over 70 countries worldwide.

About The Weakest Link

The Weakest Link is a game show which first appeared on British TV (BBC Two) on 14 August 2000 and ended on 31 March 2012 after 1,693 episodes. It has become one of the most popular TV formats in the world with versions produced in countries including Turkey, Mexico, Malaysia, Azerbaijan and Australia.

The original British version of the show is still aired around the world in over 70 countries.

About Julien Courbet

Born on February 7, 1965 in Eysines (Gironde, France) Julien Courbet is a journalist, TV presenter and producer of television and radio. He starts his career in the radio (Radio Angora, WIT FM) and then, begins on television. First, he works with locals channels from his native region (France 3 Aquitaine) before joining large national channel with France 2 alongside Jacques Martin. When he arrives in 1993 on the leading TV channel, TF1, he leads for 14 long years the hit show Sans aucun doute and becomes the scams specialist. At the same time, he hosts on RTL radio Ca peut vous arriver, the radio version of his flagship show. Julien Courbet arrives on France 2 in fall 2008 and hosts Service Maximum. During his five years of collaboration with the channel he hosts several entertainment programs as 4ème Duel and En toutes lettres. In 2013, he comes back to the head of the emission that made him famous Sans aucun doute on TMC. In September 2014, he will host the game Le Maillon Faible, on the channel D8. Julien Courbet has also his own production company La Concepteria which produces the largest TV shows in French television as Confessions Intimes, Tous Ensemble, Le jour où tout a basculé or Pascal, le grand frère.
