BBC Worldwide today announced a pre-sale for hotly anticipated new drama The Honourable Woman ahead of the world premiere screening at MIPTV. Viewers in Sweden, Finland, Norway and Denmark can look forward to seeing the new series by BAFTA award winning writer/director Hugo Blick (The Shadow Line) following a deal with HBO Nordics.

Featuring Hollywood star Maggie Gyllenhaal (Dark Knight, Secretary) in her first TV role and acclaimed British actor Andrew Buchan (Broadchurch), The Honourable Woman is a Drama Republic and Eight Rooks production for the BBC and co-produced with US channel Sundance TV. The drama is available to buyers as an 8x60’ or 9x50’ series.

Richard Hornsby-Smith, Director of Nordics, BBC Worldwide said: “The Honourable Woman exemplifies the kind of high calibre production that BBC Worldwide has built a reputation for offering. To have already concluded a pre-sale shows how confident the market is in this hugely compelling drama”.

Gyllenhaal and Buchan are set to make their MIPTV debut next month to attend BBC Worldwide’s global launch of The Honourable Woman which premieres on the opening day of the international TV market (Monday 7th April). The debut episode will be screened at 3pm (Palais, Auditorium A) followed by an exclusive Q&A with Maggie Gyllenhaal, Andrew Buchan, creator Hugo Blick and Executive Producer Greg Brenman (Ripper Street).

The Honourable Woman tells the story of one woman's personal journey to right the wrongs conducted in a past life. As a young girl, Nessa Stein witnessed the assassination of her father by the Palestinian Liberation Organisation. Now in her thirties, Nessa is at the forefront of the Middle East peace process. But when she awards a lucrative contract to a Palestinian businessman, who is later found dead, she finds herself under the close scrutiny of Whitehall and the Secret Intelligence Service.

BBC Worldwide’s MIPTV drama slate this year also includes Series 2 of Da Vinci’s Demons (10x50’), a fantastical, revisionist account of the early life of the genius and free thinker, Leonardo da Vinci from writer David S. Goyer (The Dark Knight trilogy, Man of Steel), produced by Adjacent Productions for Starz.
