BBC Worldwide expands content division with three new appointments to its Factual Entertainment and Entertainment team

Announced today these appointments will support the businesses ambition to place more premium content at the heart of BBC Worldwide, backed by an increase in content spend to over £200m annually.
Reporting to Tracy Forsyth, Genre Director of Factual Entertainment and Entertainment, Nicki McDermott has been promoted to a new permanent role as Head of Acquisitions for Entertainment. In her new role she will oversee BBC Worldwide’s content investment in Entertainment and Formats working with some of the company’s biggest brands including Top Gear and Dancing with the Stars and seeking new opportunities within these genres. McDermott joined BBC Worldwide from UKTV in October and since joining the company has overseen BBC Worldwide’s acquisition of new entertainment series including Tumble and Your Home in Their Hands from BBC Entertainment as well as driving the increased investment into scripted formats.
Nick McDermott said: “Formats and Entertainment are core genres for BBC Worldwide and I will be seeking out new programmes that will delight and entertain audiences both in the UK and overseas. In a further expansion of the team Julie Swanston, VP Commissioning for BBC Worldwide announced two new hires to the commissioning team. Former National Geographic Commissioning Executive Hannah Demidowicz and former Viacom VP of Commissioning Andrea Speziale-Bagliacca have joined her team as Commissioning Executives. They will be responsible for developing and commissioning a slate of original content for BBC Worldwide’s new genre brands BBC Brit and BBC Earth working closely with BBC Worldwide’s international channels network including BBC AMERICA to develop distinctive original series that will travel globally. Demidowicz will have a dual reporting line to Ricky Kelehar, VP Commissioning for BBC AMERICA and Julie Swanston, VP Commissioning for BBC Worldwide while Andrea Speziale-Bagliacca will report only to Swanston.
Julie Swanston said: “I’m thrilled that Andrea and Hannah will be joining our team, they both have fantastic track records in developing ambitious global series and this experience will be invaluable in supporting our commissioning strategy for BBC Worldwide’s new global genre brands and our network of international channels.”
