BBC Worldwide Channels has launched BBC Entertainment in Malaysia on Telekom Malaysia’s IPTV platform, Hypp TV. The channel joins BBC Knowledge, BBC Lifestyle and CBeebies, which have been on the platform since the introduction of Hypp TV in 2009.

Telekom Malaysia Berhad (TM) is Malaysia’s leading integrated information and communications group, offering a comprehensive range of communication services and solutions in broadband, data and fixed-line.

“We are excited that four of our branded channels encapsulating the quality, breadth and depth of our programming, are now available to TM Net’s Hypp TV subscribers,” said Mark Whitehead, GM and SVP of BBC Worldwide Channels Asia.  ”Malaysia is an important market for BBC Worldwide and our  latest partnership with TM Net for BBC Entertainment builds on our commitment to bring great quality programming to more viewers in Asia,”  he added.

Said Jeremy Kung,   Executive Vice President, TM Consumer: “BBC Worldwide’s channels enjoy wide acclaim worldwide. We are happy to add BBC Entertainment to our offerings to our viewers.  We are confident that BBC Entertainment’s high quality programming will be welcomed by our viewers.”

BBC Entertainment showcases the very best of comedy, drama and light entertainment from the BBC and other UK production houses.  On Hypp TV, the channel is available on channel 161.

In October, BBC Entertainment will present Out Of This World - a marathon of science fiction-themed series featuring the award-winning Primeval (series two to four), Doctor Who (series two to five) and Torchwood (series one to three). Every week day in October, viewers are invited to enter into the world of the supernatural and step into adventures in time travel, prehistoric horror and extraterrestrials battles.   Primeval follows a team of scientists tasked with investigating the appearance of temporal anomalies across Great Britain through which prehistoric and futuristic creatures enter the present to try to end the world. Doctor Who is the UK’s longest running science fiction series depicting the adventures of a Time Lord—a time travelling, humanoid alien with two hearts known as the Doctor. He explores the universe in his TARDIS, a sentient, telepathic time-and-space-travel machine that flies through the time vortex. Torchwood follows the adventures of a team of young investigators, led by the enigmatic Captain Jack Harkness.   Set in present day UK, the team uses scavenged alien technology to solve crime and mysteries involving both the alien and human races. The only thing is the team operates separate from the government and outside the awareness of the police and beyond the United Nations.

BBC Entertainment is also home to The Graham Norton Show, where multi-award winning comedy talk-show host, Graham Norton entertains viewers with his trademark comedy monologues, interesting celebrity chats, eccentric stories and characters, Graham Norton has hosted some of Hollywood and UK’s A-listers include Tom Cruise, Keira Knightly, Bradley Cooper and Russell Brand.  The programme airs two weeks after the UK telecast.

In Asia, besides Malaysia, BBC Entertainment is also available in Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea,  Taiwan, Thailand and India.
