BBC Worldwide Channels Latin America & U.S. Hispanic appoints Gareth Williams as VP Programming

Based in Miami, Williams will be assuming his new role by the end of July, reporting directly to Angel Peche in the General Manager’s office.
In this new role Gareth will be responsible for leading programming efforts, including program strategy, scheduling and production for the channels portfolio in the region: BBC HD, BBC Entertainment and preschool channel CBeebies. He will oversee the programming team in Miami, Mexico City and Sao Paulo and identify new opportunities to grow the network’s portfolio. Williams was formerly SVP of Content & Production, South America.

Gareth Williams has worked for BBC Worldwide and UKTV for the past 11 years. Prior to joining Channels, Gareth worked in Argentina forming strong partnerships with local broadcasters and commissioners throughout the territory, along with developing, pitching and executing new format projects with BBC Worldwide production partners in the region. His most recent productions were Dancing with the Stars in Panama, The Greats and What Not to Wear in Brazil, and Make My Body Younger in Chile. Before that he was Director of New Programming, responsible for overseeing the creation and development of formats for the world stage. He worked on in-house development, built relationships with international format partners, and worked with independent producers as well as the BBC’s production and development teams. He was also responsible for establishing creative hubs across BBC Worldwide’s global production network.
Williams first entered the field of television as a researcher with Granada TV, before joining the BBC as a series producer working on entertainment and features. In 2001, he became Commissioning Executive for UKTV Food, where he managed additions to the format catalogue for international productions and brought in deals with new producers. He later became responsible for programming the Good Food Channel and shortly after was appointed Channel Head. Gareth left UKTV to take up the post of Executive Producer at ITV’s This Morning, which was followed by joining the BBC Worldwide Programming Team.
