BBC Worldwide has secured the international live television distribution rights for major new cycling event The Prudential RideLondon Classic.
The event will feature around 150 elite racers from the world’s top teams, competing on a variation of the London 2012 Olympic road race route. The deal covers the 2013 to 2017 events.
The Prudential RideLondon Classic is the centrepiece event of Prudential RideLondon, a two-day, world-class festival of cycling that will be broadcast on the BBC from 3rd to 4th August 2013. Set up by London Marathon and SweetSpot under the banner of the London & Surrey Cycling Partnership, Prudential RideLondon will feature a mix of elite events and mass participation races.
Danny O’Toole, Head of Sport for BBC Worldwide Sales & Distribution, commented, “The London Marathon has been a big seller for us internationally, and we hope to see RideLondon replicate that success. With so many top racers competing, it’s sure to appeal to our clients.”
Mick Bennett, Race Director of The Prudential RideLondon Classic added, “This is an exciting time for cycling in the UK, with a new generation of cyclists inspired by Team GB’s success in the London Olympics. We’re very happy to be working with BBC Worldwide to give RideLondon the global TV platform it deserves.”
