The winner of BBC Lifestyle’s ‘Love Baking Cupcake Competition’ has been chosen by master pâtissier Eric Lanlard, with the celebrity baker announcing and re-creating the successful winners original recipe on Monday 13th August after Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard at 20:30.
The ‘Love Baking Cupcake Competition’ which sought to find the best original cupcake recipe in Africa launched on the 9th June. Viewers were asked to enter by submitting a photograph of themselves and their very own original cupcake creation, along with full recipe instructions and ingredients. Over 370 applicants entered the competition in the hope of being crowned the Cupcake King or Queen of Africa. As well as the promise of Eric Lanlard re-creating their recipe on BBC Lifestyle, the prize also included a Kenwood Food Mixer.
The Love Baking Dream Team, which consisted of judges from BBC Lifestyle, judged the submitted recipes on a set criteria of appearance and taste until 10 finalists were shortlisted. You can see which recipes were selected at http://www.bbcsouthafrica.com/cupcake-competition. It was then the task of master baker Eric Lanlard, star of Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard and Glamour Puds, to decide which of the recipes should be crowned the winner of the Love Baking Cupcake Competition. Discussing the judging process Eric commented: “I would like to say how impressed I was with the number of applicants and the high standard and quality of entries we received from our viewers and fans. It really showed that the country has gone “BAKING MAD” which is great! Picking a winner from the hundreds of delicious recipes we received certainly wasn’t easy as there was so much creativity and originality displayed.”
To find out the winner of the competition tune in to BBC Lifestyle on Monday 13th August, when Eric will be re-creating the winning recipe in a short vignette scheduled to air after the cupcake themed episode of Baking Mad with Eric Lanlard at 20:30.
