John Myers, who recently conducted a review of the BBC's national music services, has been formally commissioned to conduct an Independent Review of BBC Local Radio services.
The review, commissioned by BBC Controller of English Regions, David Holdsworth, is expected to take until Christmas with a report by February 2012.
John will focus his efforts on how BBC Local Radio can maximise productivity and deliver efficiency savings. He is not expected to review content.
As part of this process, John will visit a selection of BBC Local Radio stations across England.
