FIFA World Cup 1978

Confirmed for BBC Two on 14 June at 8.55am to 10.30am

Saturday 14 June

An in-depth documentary looking back on the 1978 World Cup, where hosts Argentina lifted the trophy amid controversy and tickertape.

The documentary is part of FIFA’s 14 World Cup films – all of which will be shown in the run-up to this summer’s tournament – which turn the spotlight on the seminal moments of the global spectacle that is the World Cup.

The 1978 tournament is remembered for the scoring exploits of Argentine striker Mario Kempes, not forgetting Scotland’s Archie Gemmill’s solo effort against the Netherlands, which became one of the most memorable goals in World Cup history.
