Citizen Khan

Confirmed for BBC One on 4 October at 9.30pm to 10.00pm

Ep 1/6

Friday 4 October

Mr Khan is a larger-than-life character, with strong opinions and big dreams. The challenges he faces are those of many fathers - how to make ends meet, keep his wife and daughters happy and impress his daughter’s future in-laws.

Things would be so much easier if everyone just listened to him and followed his lead, but his obsessively house-proud wife and two feisty daughters usually have other ideas.

In episode one, Alia’s College, Mr Khan’s day off from being a ‘busy’ community leader is interrupted when Alia fails her exams, prompting Mrs Khan to lay down the law. She tells Mr Khan to sign Alia up at the Muslim Academy, but when he finds out how much it costs, Khan decides there’s a better option...

Meanwhile Shazia has invited Debbie, her best friend and boss, round for dinner with the intention of asking her to be chief bridesmaid at her wedding. But she hasn’t counted on her dad inadvertently inviting an extra guest.

The family-based sitcom set in the capital of British Pakistan - Sparkhill, Birmingham - continues. Citizen Khan follows the trials and tribulations of larger-than-life, loud-mouthed, tight-fisted, self-appointed community leader Mr Khan (Adil Ray) and his long suffering family – wife Mrs Khan (Shobu Kapoor) and daughters Shazia (Maya Sondhi) and Alia (Bhavna Limbachia).

Created by Adil Ray, the character Mr Khan has already featured in BBC Two comedy series Bellamy’s People, on Radio Four’s Down The Line and on his own online series on the BBC Comedy website.
