Bought With Love: The Secret History Of British Art Collections
Confirmed for BBC Four on 31 July at 9.00pm to 10.00pm
Wednesday 31 July
In this final film, Helen explores the age of the individual. In the 19th century, art collecting reached maturity when unprecedented wealth from Britain’s booming economy encouraged enlightened, philanthropic industrialists to spend their fortunes on art – and in many cases then donate their collections to the nation. As the national passion for art moved onto a new level, the opening of our own National Gallery was fuelled and shaped by these donations.
Bought With Love: The Secret History Of British Art Collections is a BBC Scotland Production. The executive producer is Franny Moyle.
