Alison Goldfrapp joins Katie Puckrik to talk all things progressive as she banishes musical snobbery and celebrates the unalloyed joy of outsider pop.

Art rock, freak folk, psychedelic soul. Whatever its label, it's all progressive - music that's ahead of its time and out of this world. Over the years, progressive artists from King Crimson and Curved Air to Funkadelic and Kraftwerk have collectively twisted our melons into one giant Salvador Dali melting clock.

But progressive music is so much more than just quadruple-sided concept albums featuring men singing in high lady voices. Progressive sums up the startling grandeur of altered states, such as artists whose breadth includes Radiohead, Grizzly Bear, Field Music, Bat For Lashes, Tame Impala, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Ariel Pink, and Midlake.

Progressive with Katie Puckrik places today's alt fave raves in the context of their musical forbearers. Katie makes entertaining and enlightening connections between current indie pop unquestionably accepted as painfully hip and the intimidating, sometimes unfairly mocked, art-sounds of yore.
