Robbo Ranx

Monday 6 August

7.00pm-9.00pm

BBC RADIO 1XTRA

Radio 1Xtra Dancehall presenter Robbo Ranx stands in for MistaJam, exploring the culture of Jamaican music from Dancehall, Reggae and Roots to Soundclashes and the origination of DJ culture, wrapped up with plenty of fun and entertainment.

To honour Jamaica’s 50th year of independence, earlier this year 1Xtra recorded a series of special sessions at Bob Marley’s legendary Tuff Gong Studios in Kingston Jamaica, with 14 Jamaican artists. Artist heavyweights such as Chaka Demus & Pliers, Beenie Man, Elephant Man, Gyptian and Capleton paid homage to reggae and dancehall by recording their favourite track from the last 50 years.

These special session tracks will be played throughout the week on 1Xtra and will also feature in the final hour of Robbo’s show – along with interviews from the artists involved, as well as a special interview with Bob Marley’s daughter Cedella Marley. A filmed version of this music special will also be streamed online at bbc.co.uk/1xtra.
