Radio 1 Stories - Breakbeat Kaos: The Story of DJ Fresh & Adam F
Monday 6 August
BBC RADIO 1
Everybody knows Fresh bagged the first ever Number 1 Dubstep and Drum n Bass records with Louder and Hot Right Now, but not everybody knows the journey he took to get there.
Radio 1 Stories sheds light on Fresh’s early days in Drum n Bass super group Bad Company, whose high energy tunes changed the sound of a genre. Fresh reveals how close he was to giving up music entirely and how a story from Paulo Coelho kept him going, leading eventually to his massive commercial success.
Adam F is also a super-producer. His Mobo award-winning Colours album is one of the most important in the Drum n Bass scene, whilst Kaos, his pioneering hip hop album, meant he was one of the UK’s first underground producers to travel to America and work with A-list artists such as Redman, LL Cool J and De La Soul.
Together Adam F & DJ Fresh run the label Breakbeat Kaos - probably the most influential label in Bass music, having brought through artists like Pendulum, Chase & Status, Nero & The Brookes Brothers.
With guests including contemporaries – Fabio, Grooverider, D Bridge, LTJ Bukem, London Electricity; artists they’ve signed – Pendulum, Chase & Status, The Brookes Brothers; artists they’ve worked with – Rita Ora, Dizzee Rascal, Rizzle Kicks, Redman, LL Cool J; and artists they’ve inspired – Flux Pavilion, Example, Rudimental, Benga & Skream.
