St Ives And Me

Anna Chen takes a personal look at the rich cultural life of St Ives, past and present.

She explores the cultural community that's made this Cornish coastal town such a draw for artists and visitors alike.

Having spent holidays there since the age of 10, she’s known many of the famous artists who've populated and popularised St Ives

In the late Seventies the bohemian fashion journalist and novelist Molly Parkin was a regular on the St Ives scene and she recalls introducing Anna to artist Patrick Heron. Anna revisits Patrick’s Porthmeor studio and meets two present day painters.

Taking in a personal tour of the town, she returns to Barbara Hepworth's sculpture garden and hears about the unique light conditions that attract so many artists.
