BBC One kept tradition by coming out on top on Christmas Day with the top five most popular programmes across drama, comedy and entertainment including Mrs Brown’s Boys, EastEnders, Strictly Come Dancing, Call the Midwife and Miranda.

BBC Radio 3 today [Tuesday 23 December] announced the winning carol in its nation-wide Breakfast Carol Competition. Thousands of listeners voted for their favourite carol, electing Jacqueline Burley’s setting of the words of Can It Be True?, a poem by author Susan Hill, as the winner.
One of Wales’ best-loved comedies, High Hopes, will return to screens in March 2015 for a one-off special, BBC Wales has announced. The surreal valleys sit-com, set in the fictional village of Cwm Pen-Ôl and featuring the crooked Hepplewhite household returns to air after more than five years.
Adapted by Richard Curtis and Paul Mayhew-Archer, the film also stars Richard Cordery as Mr Pringle and James Corden plays the part of the narrator.
The festive season is one of the busiest times of year for app downloads. The BBC today announced that its top ten apps have been downloaded over 70m times since launch, and is anticipating a bumper year for app downloads as new tablets and smartphones are unwrapped at Christmas.

BBC Radio 4, the world’s foremost quality speech radio network, together with its digital sister station BBC Radio 4 Extra has announced an agreement with TED, the organisation dedicated to ideas worth spreading in the form of short, powerful TED Talks and other ideas-oriented content. The aim of the arrangement is to give curious minds even more ways to access the most stimulating ideas being discussed globally today.
