BBC Radio York has announced Georgey Spanswick as its new breakfast show presenter.

Georgey currently hosts the Late Show on BBC stations across Yorkshire, as well as Saturday breakfast on BBC Radio Sheffield.

She’s a familiar voice already, having also fronted programmes on BBC Radio Leeds and she is the regular stand in for the national All England Mark Forrest Show.

Georgey is looking forward to her new early mornings and working with the team in North Yorkshire where she now lives: "I'm incredibly excited about the prospect of breakfast on Radio York - it's a great city and the county is rich with history and culture and has a real buzz. We will cover local news and sport of course, but we're going to have some fun and a few laughs too with plans to get out and mingle. I can't wait to wake up North Yorkshire!"

Georgey grew up in Surrey but moved to Yorkshire 25 years ago. She has worked at Yorkshire TV and Channel 4, and presented a number of radio programmes working with high-profile names such as Radio 2’s Steve Wright. Her first job was at TV AM where she was a researcher before she moved on screen for the Wide Awake Club. She then joined Calendar as a reporter, before making the transition into radio with local commercial stations. She started presenting for the BBC 10 years ago.

Georgey starts on breakfast at BBC Radio York in May, when she takes over the mantle from Adam Tomlinson, who has fronted the programme for the past six years.

Adam will now co-present the Afternoon Show alongside Anna Wallace, who recently joined him for the traffic and travel on breakfast.

Adam says: “It’s been a real joy and privilege to have worked on breakfast. I have enjoyed every moment of it and wish Georgey all the best. I’m also absolutely delighted to have been asked to present the station’s new afternoon show with Anna and we can’t wait to get started. It’s important to undertake different projects from time to time and we’re planning on having lots of fun in the afternoons and will be eating lots of cake in the process!”

Sanjiv Buttoo, new Managing Editor at BBC Radio York, said: “Adam has done a fantastic job on Breakfast and deserves a well-earned lie in. Adam and Anna have really gelled as a team and will work well together on the new look Afternoon programme."

He added: "I am absolutely delighted that Georgey is joining the Radio York team; her infectious laughter, lively manner and thirst for getting to the heart of a news story will work really well.”

Georgey’s first Breakfast Show on Radio York will be on Monday 19 May when audiences will be able to hear her from the earlier time of 6am Monday to Fridays.
