BBC launches digital episode of Inside No. 9

The BBC has today launched a digital episode of brand-new comedy series, Inside No. 9, available to audiences online across PCs, tablets and mobiles from www.insideno9extra.co.uk.
The digital special, The Inventors, is an extra stand-alone story written by Ed Hime. It forms part of Inside No. 9’s anthology of darkly comic tales, created by the minds of Steve Pemberton and Reece Shearsmith (The League Of Gentlemen, Psychoville), adding to the six separate 30-minute episodes currently airing on BBC Two at 10pm on Wednesdays.
The Inventors features Andy (Tom Verall) and Dennis (Dan Renton Skinner) who’ve found it hard to let go since losing their mum in the Great Storm of 1987. Now with their dad dead too, Dennis reckons it’s time to sell their parents’ flat, but Andy has a better idea: an invention that might just save the day.
The story is told in a unique digital format, replacing linear video with a series of cinematic photographs or ‘cinemagraphs’ with dialogue. Each cinemagraph captures a single moment in Andy and Dennis’s adventure through a still image, which contains an isolated piece of movement that repeats on an infinite loop. Audiences can move the story along when they want to by clicking or swiping, depending on their device.
The Inventors was created by digital agency Kanoti as part of the BBC’s open innovation programme, Connected Studio. It was produced by Jon Aird and executive produced by Will Saunders for BBC Comedy Production.
