The BBC has appointed five PR agencies, subject to contract, to provide TV Licensing communications locally across the UK.

The agencies will deliver a strategic programme of TV Licensing communications under the direction of the BBC, via the media, stakeholders and social media at a specialist, regional level.

Agencies have been appointed for London and the South East, Wales and the South West, the Midlands, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The contracts will commence in April 2013 and run initially for three years with an option to extend for a further two years.

The agencies appointed, subject to contract, are:

  • Fishburn Hedges – London and South East
  • Grayling – Wales and South West
  • Clarke Associates – The Midlands
  • Smarts – Scotland
  • Stakeholder Group – Northern Ireland

Sian Healey, TV Licensing Head of Policy and Communications, said: “This procurement has enabled us to recruit the best PR agencies for our requirements and offers excellent value for money for licence fee payers. It’s important for TV Licensing to let people know when a licence is needed and we also run an extensive stakeholder campaign working with a wide range of organisations, including those specialising in money advice.”

Notes to Editors

No appointment has been made for the North region. An interim solution is being sought while another tender process is undertaken for the contract.

The BBC is a public authority in respect of its television licensing functions and retains overall responsibility.
