Eleri Sion and Wynne Evans to take presenter's chair in afternoons on Radio Wales

I’m delighted to welcome both Eleri and Wynne to BBC Radio Wales. Eleri has been a firm favourite on Radio Cymru and S4C over the years and will bring bags of personality to the station. Plans for weekday afternoons on BBC Radio Wales have been unveiled today, following the announcement last week that Louise Elliott will be leaving the station next month.

Eleri Siôn will be taking over the afternoon slot from Mondays to Thursdays from 14 October, while on Fridays from 18 October, Wynne Evans will have a brand new show looking forward to the weekend’s events and activities all over Wales.

Eleri Siôn, originally from the Aberaeron area, is a well-established and popular presenter on BBC Radio Cymru and on S4C. She currently presents Radio Cymru’s live sports show, Camp Lawn, on Saturdays. Eleri’s new afternoon show on BBC Radio Wales will have a mix of real people, great stories, advice, live music and much more.

“I’m very excited about the prospect of presenting the afternoon show,” says Eleri. “It’s a great chance for me to get to know the audience. I’m a big fan of Louise Elliott’s programme and although she’s definitely a hard act to follow, I’m thrilled to have been given this chance.

“It’s a great job because having a daily radio programme means you’re invited into people’s homes every day and we’re part of each other’s routines. I’m looking forward to speaking to as many listeners as possible - I’m sure we’ll have a lot of fun together! And I’m really looking forward to hearing some great live music.”

On Fridays, Wynne Evans’ Big Welsh Weekend will set the tone for everyone’s favourite part of the week. Carmarthen-born Wynne is a familiar face from his career as a leading opera singer and also from a series of well-known TV commercials, and he’s already presented a number of programmes on Radio Wales, standing in for regular presenters as well as having his very own show on Saturdays during the summer. He says he’s looking forward to speaking to people from all over Wales and hearing about their weekend plans, from Carmen to car boot sales.

“My mission will be to help people have the perfect weekend,” says Wynne. “How many times have we all sat there, thinking ‘what’s going on this weekend?' I want to hear from everyone about what they have planned - and it’ll be perfect for me too because I’ll be able to find out what I can do with my family! If I wasn’t presenting I’d certainly be listening in.”

Steve Austins, Editor of BBC Radio Wales, says: “I’m delighted to welcome both Eleri and Wynne to BBC Radio Wales. Eleri has been a firm favourite on Radio Cymru and S4C over the years and will bring bags of personality to the station. Listeners are already familiar with Wynne and this new show will allow him to talk to people across Wales, which is one of his major strengths.

“We’re obviously sad to lose Louise from the afternoons but I think Eleri and Wynne will offer listeners something new.”
