This is the second time we are participating in London’s Chinese New Year celebration. BBC Chinese will be hosting a show in London’s Chinatown as part of the festivities celebrating the Chinese New Year of Snake.

Between 1.30pm and 3.00pm on Sunday 10 February, the BBC Chinese variety show on a stage in Shaftsbury Avenue will feature traditional singing and dancing, flute melody, magic, martial art and Peking opera, performed by more than 20 artistes including students from mainland China, Hong Kong, Taiwan and Malaysia, UK students who study Chinese, as well as professional performers – and a BBC Chinese journalist.

Co-presented in Mandarin, Cantonese and English by the BBC’s Jiyang Qiao and Helen Hu, the show will engage the revellers in a collective song composing and interactive games. Prizes include guest-editing the BBC Chinese websites - bbcchinese.com and bbcukchina.com - for one day, and a tour of the new BBC Broadcasting House, which is now home of BBC Chinese.

BBC Chinese Editor, Raymond Li, says: “This is the second time we are participating in London’s Chinese New Year celebration. It is the largest such event outside China, and we are thrilled to be connecting with the UK’s 400,000-strong Chinese community to channel the vibrancy of the London festivities to our audiences around the world.”

The celebration will be streamed live and reported extensively on bbcchinese.com and bbcukchina.com, as well as via the micro-blogging sites of the BBC Chinese partner websites, which carry the bbcukchina.com content. These websites will also stream the BBC Chinese tweets from the show, inviting the fans of bbcukchina.com to join the Year of Snake revelry in London.
