Iconic Sixties singer Marianne Faithfull and legendary reggae DJ Dave Rodigan will each open their record collections and share their musical influences with the nation as they present A Month Of Sundays from next month on BBC Radio 6 Music.

Faithfull (starting Sunday 8 July) and Rodigan (from Sunday 5 August) will each present the show for four consecutive Sundays (4-6pm) and share insights and anecdotes garnered over many years in the industry.

Marianne Faithfull, the crown princess of swinging London, has had a long and varied career, starting with ‘As Tears Go By’ in 1964, the first song written by Mick Jagger and Keith Richards. Her 1979 album ‘Broken English’ fused rock, punk, new wave with dance and won big critical acclaim.

Marianne said: “I was honoured to be asked to present my own series of programmes for BBC Radio 6 Music, especially as I can indulge myself by playing some of my most favourite records across a variety of genres including jazz and blues.”

Throughout August, David Rodigan, 2012 Sony Radio Academy Gold Award winner and Radio 2 presenter, will bring his knowledge and life-long love of Jamaican music to Radio 6 Music’s A Month Of Sundays. This coincides with the 50th anniversary celebration of Jamaican Independence.

David said: “The four shows will celebrate Jamaica's rich musical diversity stretching back over the past 50 years of independence and bring a distinctively cool, reggae one drop flavour to Sundays in August.”

Paul Rodgers, Head of BBC Radio 6 Music, said: “It is fantastic to have such legendary talent sharing their expert knowledge and passion for music on A Month Of Sundays guaranteeing listeners an incredibly diverse musical experience.”

Rodigan and Faithfull follow in the musically rich footsteps of Mark Ronson, and John Cooper Clark in presenting this slot. Jarvis Cocker’s Sunday Service will return to Radio 6 Music on 8th September 2012.

Also in July, even more legendary musical talent will be appearing on 6 Music with a brand new series of The First Time with… featuring Wayne Coyne from the Flaming Lips (8 July), Sinead O’Connor (15 July), Slash (22 July) and Simon Le Bon (29 July). Presented by Matt Everitt, the series will include in-depth exclusive interviews, revealing the pivotal moments and songs that shaped these internationally acclaimed artists’ lives and careers.

Sony Radio Academy UK Station of the Year BBC Radio 6 Music achieved record RAJAR figures last month and now reaches over 1.45 million listeners each week.
