Voices: Poetry Lines
Poems on the train Passengers on board the 12.04 from Handforth were recently treated to some live poetry reading by Suzanne Batty of the A6 Poets and BBC Late Show Poet Richard Fair.

The poetry reading served two purposes.

Firstly to raise awareness for the campaign to set up a Friends of Levenshulme Station group.

Secondly it entertained a party of children from Alma Park Primary School who were joining the train at Levenshulme to go to the Bridgewater Hall in Manchester for a poetry workshop.

As part of the lesson at the Bridgewater, the children were asked to complete a sentence. Here's a selection of their responses:

It was so quiet I could hear...

  • the sun letting out his beams
  • stars twinkling
  • a monkey swimming in Levenshulme Pool
  • the moon in the sky
  • the blood floating in my veins
  • someone open and close their eyelids
  • the stars laughing
