24 hour tram strike to hit Metrolink network
updated 16/01/2004
Alt tag Manchester's Metrolink network will be hit by a one day strike on Saturday 17 January.

See below for details of disrupted service.
Tram

The second 24 hour stoppage is the result of an ongoing trade union dispute. The first strike took place at midnight on New Year's Eve.

Drivers from the union ASLEF are unhappy that Metrolink negotiates pay and conditions with another union, the TGWU, but not directly with them. ASLEF represents about a quarter of the 340 staff.

Trams normally run every six minutes between 0900 and 1800 GMT on a Saturday. Because of the strike, Metrolink say they will be operating reduced service on Saturday 17th January 2004.
