From Paul Chubb in Didsbury
I love to eat out in Didsbury village, tuna fish with lashings of mayonnaise is wonderful!

From John Lumb in Fallowfield

Being classed as one of Fallowfield's 'Fat Cats' I like nothing more than hunting down a nice morsel to eat around the finer restaurants in the student quarter. The Lansdowne Hotel always has a large selection of treats.

From Phil in Altrincham
Usually grab a sandwich at my desk, but may have to review lunchtime activities after managing to throw a cranberry & raspberry yoghurt over myself and keyboard just half an hour ago. Can recommend chippy by Altrincham Market for a Friday treat!

From nikki mulhern in Manchester
rikki tikki tavis is the best for an informal lunch with the highest standard . it's located at the printworks , manchester

From Sam in Manchester
Haven't been into the centre of Manchester for a while but whenever i visit i always head for the Hot Dog stand on the corner of St Ann's Square. Best i've ever tasted!! Hope its still there.

From Phil in Baker St, London
I used to dream of getting a Greggs down in London and finally last year they started opening them. I have a cheese and onion pastie from there everyday. LUSH!! I have only had to wait ten years!!Cant really beat Mancunian food. When I go home to see my parents I go to Steves Supper Bar in Walkden and get myself chips, steak and kidney pud, mushies covered in gravy. London just does not have enough chippies, and the ones they have are mostly CRAP!!! God I'm hungry.

From Steve in London City
Been too long down south to comment on Restaurants but the two very best sandwiches I have ever eaten have been in Manchester - The Pop Cafe (scooby snack) & Sandwich Heaven (Chicken Club) - awesome (not sure if either are still around)

From David Mason
The English Lounge, (ex-Hoggshead) must offer the most spectacular pub food in Manchester. If you haven't been there yet, I suggest you do. Presentation, quality and service are second to none. Everyone I have taken there have been impressed.

From Dylan Price in Barcelona
I used to live in Manchester, now I live in Barcelona. The food there is great, the food in Manchester is rubbish. Also it tends to be sunny at lunchtime. Unlucky...

From DEREK PARR in Marietta,Ga,USA
When in Manchester my wife and I eat Lunch in the Abercromby, Bootle St

From Al, Cannock, Staffs
When I lived up North for a year (student placement thing), I regularly used to go to a little butchers in Heald Green. They did fantastic freshly cooked meat filled baguettes for next to no money! Ah...turkey and cranberry!

From Stuart, Manchester
Its got to be Pizza Hut oppsoite M&S, great value lunch all you can get down for £5.50 and the staff are just the best very chatty and friendly, you got my custom guys.

From Claire, Salford
We have 3 sandwhich people come into our building with different sandwhiches and snacks, one of them started to stock weight watcher sandwhiches which was great but have now stopped :-( with the others you don't have a clue how many calories they are packed with.

From Ian
I will be original and say Greggs is my favourite. It might be boring but I am a poor student and it fills me up! And they are on every street corner in the city centre, but the one near the high street entrance in the Arndale is the one I usualy go to.

From Alison Short in Manchester
Sandwiches most days (buy ingredients to make my own), M&S do great bread rolls but Jim Thompsons Thai restaurant do a Thai lunch box that you can get for £5 with Sunday Times offer. 3 courses with at least 3 choices for each, amazing. They do a buffet as well 12-3pm. Also enjoy Stock for really supert business lunches - you cannot beat it. Norfolk Street.

From Tom in Manchester
Last Friday I went to 'Simple' on Tib Street (I think it's Tib Street anyway) in the Northern Quarter. Very very good. Soup of the day was Fab, and there wraps and hot sandwiches are delightful too. I was absolutely stuffed afterwards too, which of course is just as important!!!

From Sarah in Manchester
I've recently discovered 'FirstTaste' - Oxford Road. We also use them for business lunches in the office as their sandwiches are amazing - they run circles round Philpotts and they're even friendly!

From John Lumb in Fallowfield
Lunch is easy, get yourself on the blowere and order a curry from Rusholme. You lot do live in the curry capital after all. Me favs a Korma. aaaavvvit!!!

From Amanda in Manchester
I risk death everyday by eating in our STAFF CANTEEN!!!
But you haven't said where it is you work!! (Ed)

From Stu in Birmingham
Any of the Kebab shops in Fallowfield were a real mans lunch when I used to live there. I dream of them from time to time. Birmingham doesn't seem to have the equivalent.

From Adrian Whittleworth in Dubai, UAE
Any of the curry caff's around Shudehill, Blackfriars and the garment district is a sound bet for a good nose bag. It also acts as a good purgative to boot!

From Samantha in Perth, Western Australia
I just dream of eating lunch back home in Manchester ! Anything would do, from a Cheese & Onion pastie from Gregs to something delicious from M&S. But the best little take away is at the indoor arcade between Deansgate and St Anne's Square - great bacon butties girls !!!

From Ric Euteneuer, LONDON, UK
Cafe Pop on Oldham Street is my personal fave for lunch when I'm in the Rainy City

From brian, manchester
Cant beat Ho's Chinese Bakery in chinatown - dead cheap, fantastic food; best off asking them to heat it first though

From Janette, Manchester UK
I work in the city centre of Manchester and go to 'Essy's' for my lunch, Essy's is a cafe/ diner - the food is great - anything from a sandwich to bacon, egg and chips with a nice cup of tea - and best of all you can actually have a cigarette

From manchester muncher, manchester
The shouty shop is the best for amusement and their food isn't bad either. Have No idea what it's real name is, it's situated round the back of Picc plaza and they shout and shout and shout. Station Chippy is also very appetizing....

From Matt C in Manchester
I go to spud-u-like in Piccadilly Gardens. You can't beat the taste of potato on polystyrene! You never know what to expect either, sometimes i pay for a large 7up and receive a small diet coke! Highly recommended.

From city centre worker, manchester
I can't rate Nicky's on Cross Street highly enough. Great sandwiches, soups, panninnis, salads etc at reasonable prices. Service with a smile would be nice though!

From Gillybean, Manchester
I quite agree with the packed lunch, very frugal. Must include an apple pie though!

From Andy Gray, Manchester
For an occasional treat, the lunchtime specials in some of the more upmarket restaurants in China town represent superb value for money. And, if you still have room for dessert, Ho's bakery comes highly recommended.

From Phillip Richards, Fallowfield
This may sound quite sad, but although I'm 29 my mum still makes me a packed lunch. I always get 4 rounds of sanwiches ( chicken), an apple, an orange and a bag od crisps. In all honesty I think this is much healthier than McDonalds etc and my health will be all the better for it. I usually sit beside the canal in Castlefield and this means I get some much needed fresh air.

From Mark Garner, Manchester
I love the Great American Sandwich in the City Centre. mmmmm the carveries are delicious and it is always a pleasure to get service with a smile from Neil behind the counter!

From Michael in Manchester
I always eat from Take 5, they have a wide selection of sandwiches so i never tire of them. They are so reasonably priced as well so who am i to complain.

From Laura in Manchester
i go to melias or philpots for my sandwiches but if iam entertaining i go to the circle club, zinc or grinch

From Erin Freeman in Manchester
I try my hardest to get my full hour by getting out of the office as soon as possible! i live a 5 minute walk away from work, which while being disadvantageous for pulling sickeys, is a damn treat for popping home for lunch.... i do miss the regular pub lunches i used to have in previous jobs though. Saves a tonne of money going home aswell as recently i would spend in the region of £5 in marks and spencers per DAY!!.. simple cuppa soup and a sandwich does the job nicely and costs next to nothing!

From Ricky (Dentist) Allen in Manchester
I spend every lunchtime at McDonalds, can't get enough of them!! I vary my diet, Big Mac, Chicken Sandwich, or my favourite ¼ pounder with cheese and a fillet'o'fish burger on Fridays. They are quick, convenient, reasonably priced and tasty, plus you have the choice to eat in or take away. I'm not a fan of these new trendy sandwiches, smoked venison on a bed of rocket with a hint of tarragon in a sun dried tomato and fennel bagel.

Carole in Manchester says:
Sometimes it's the staff canteen, vegetarian option. Then there's The Living Room, a classy little wine bar in Deansgate, fish cakes. And Chroma, a classy type of Pizza Hut. Or perhaps I might do the Greasy Spoon type caf, on Piccadilly approach, cheese & onion pie.
Of course I dress accordingly. The 'Builders Bum' jeans, essential for the greasy spoon, not really appropriate for networking in the staff canteen & dressing in the corporate image, can be exhausting.

Debbie in Manchester says:
I tend to grab a pre-packed sandwich, fruit and a drink and eat at my desk so that I can carry on with what I'm doing without breaking my train of thought.

Claire in Manchester says:
I sometimes pop out for a sandwich as its nice to buy something different as there are some nice deli and coffee bars around - once a week or once every other week as a treat other wise its a home made butty or soup (I have a microwave in the kitchen) or a salad - eaten at the desk with phone in one hand and eye on the e-mail - as work is so busy now there is not time to take and have a social lunch - those days are long gone if you want to keep the boss happy and the work loads down.
