Interview with Eddie Halliwell in Ibiza
updated 19/07/04
Eddie Halliwell It's not every day that you get to share a DJ box at one of the biggest clubs in the world, with one of the universe's fastest rising uber-DJs.
Debbie Troops talks exclusively to Goodgreef resident - and regular crowdbomber! - Eddie Halliwell on the White Isle...
Eddie! Eddie! - Crowd-bombing with Eddie Halliwell

So why are you so tired then - it's only Sunday?
Yeah it's been a really busy weekend so far I was in Bournemouth and London and then last night I played a big music festival in Holland, which was a bit weird 'cos they made us turn the music down halfway through and that put a bit of a dampener on things… I think there was about 40,000 people there as well which was brilliant.

But you're heading into the DJ stratosphere now you're used to that aren't you? I wouldn't go that far, I still find it all a bit strange sometimes when people say that… I know what you mean though because the big festivals are really good to do and I'm lucky that I'm getting asked to do more of them, like the Radio 1 Homelands thing which was wicked. I was a bit worried 'cos the weather had been so awful, but it all turned out brilliantly and I had a great time.

Congratulations on joining the Radio 1 rosta by the way. Thanks I'm really pleased about that… obviously, I mean this is all still just a dream for me… it's what I've always wanted to do and I still can't believe it's happening to me …

But it hasn't changed you has it? 'Cos we've talked quite a few times now and you are the same bloke whether it's five people or 55,000 people - normal! I hope so… it's important for me to still be part of the crowd and even in the big arenas you know I want to feel part of what they're experiencing. It's important I think to talk to people and have your picture taken and things… actually I hate it when I have to rush off after a set and I think people might think I haven't got time for them. They're a huge part of me being a success and I never want to forget that.

So let's talk about Eden, 'cos you're a resident here again this summer. Yeah it's brilliant, I love playing here with Jules and this year we've got the Trophy Twins as well -

Who are completely bonkers- They're a good laugh yeah… but no I love playing here it's my third year it just gets better and better for me, I mean the first time I came here you know with one record box… and now when I see posters everywhere with my name on it feels weird… not right somehow.

So what's coming up? Studio stuff ?although you told me that's your idea of hell! Anything that takes me away from DJ'ing upsets me but I would like to get into a studio eventually, there's so much touring I'm off to America and I've been playing in Russia and I played to 5000 people in a club in Taiwan - amazing… I don't want to run before I can walk I want to do studio stuff in the future but for now I'm concentrating on the DJing, it's what I love… when the set-ups right it's the best feeling in the world… and being here in Ibiza is amazing it doesn't get much better does it?

And crowd-surfing? You gonna do it tonight? Well I did in Taiwan and hurt my back so I have to be a bit more careful…but we'll see…

And of course he couldn't help himself - check the pictures!

In a nutshell:

Eddie Halliwell
plays Judgement Sunday @ Eden in Ibiza every other Sunday. Headlining for Goodgreef @ this year's Creamfields - details coming soon.
