Calling in the troops at Canteena
updated 27/05/04
A tank outside Canteena Customers to Canteena on Deansgate would be forgiven for thinking that they have stumbled upon an out-post for the Imperial War Museum!

DJ's will need a driving licence!

Sandbags, camo-netting and even a tank have been drafted in to create a war-zone atmosphere at the former Quay Bar.

But Canteena isn't new to Manchester. The bar last appeared in 1999 in an army surplus tent next to Barca in Catalan Square.

Canteena will play host to some of the top DJ's who will spin their discs inside half an ex-MOD jeep which has come over from Germany.

Friday 28th May - Drunk Jukebox with John Locke and Elliot Eastwick. Comedy Store manager Locke joins forces with Northern DJ Eastwick to visit the far-reaching and often familiar parts of their record collections, providing a fun and non too serious start to proceedings at Canteena.

Saturday 29th May - Blowout. Blowout is a new Mancunian success story. A club night boasting live band performance at every event, Blowout has captured the imagination of a legion of disillusioned club and gig goers over the last twelve months and has played host to artists such as Bobby Conn, Misty Dixon, John Stammers, Aidan Smith, Nine Black Alps and Rebelski. The full team of Blowout DJs will be at Canteena.

Sunday 30th May - Red Sundays with original Canteena resident John Stammers and special guests. At least some of the tremendous success that Canteena experienced throughout its initial run in Castlefield has to be attributed the one and only resident DJ John Stammers who will be playing his own unique blend of folk, pop, hip hop, soul, rock, funk.
