Race for Life - information on the Manchester event

Race details:
The course is a single lap route around Heaton Park with a few hills. The course will be slightly changed from 2003 layout. The event starts at 11am on Sunday 06 June 2004.

Balloon Release
This year Cancer Research UK will be doing a balloon release. The pink balloons will have tags on for you to write your own message. You can buy balloons on the day for £1 or a donation and Race for Life badges for a £1, all the money raised will go to Cancer Research UK.

Getting there:
Due to the large number of participants expected, organisers are urging runners to travel with friends or use public transport where possible.

Public Transport
Trams will be running on Metrolink on Sunday. There is a stop at Heaton Park but you should allow plenty of time to reach the start.

By Car:
IMPORTANT CHANGES TO CAR PARKS AND DIRECTIONS
From: M60 west at junction 17 down Bury Old Road
From: M66 North and M62 East – turn off at junction 18 onto the M60 for Manchester/Stockport. Exit at junction 19 and follow the A576 (Manchester). Turn right onto Sheepfoot Lane (A6044) and then right onto Bury Old Road.
From: Manchester City Centre – Take the A665 Bury Old Road to Prestwich

Parking
Please note that there is now only one official Race for Life Car Park. Traffic will be directed to the Papal Fields on Bury Old Road, AA signage will be directing the traffic to the entrance.

Parking is available at the Park at a cost of £1.00 per car, however space is limited. The Car Park will be clearly signposted. If you are travelling down Middleton Road from Junction 19 of the M60 please avoid using the Middleton Road Car Park. Please continue straight on turning into Sheepfoot Lane and then turn right onto Bury Old Road towards the Papal Fields Entrance which will be sign posted with AA signage.
