Congestion Question: debate

As the people of Greater Manchester prepare to vote in a referendum on the proposed Transport Innovation Fund (TIF) - or congestion charge plan – listen again to a live debate on BBC Radio Manchester:

Starting Monday 24 Nov 2008, 1.9 million ballot papers will be sent out to all those eligible to vote in the referendum which closes at 10pm on 11 December.

Beetham Tower, Manchester

High level discussion

Vote YES, and up to £2.7 billion of public money will be spent on improving the region’s trams, trains, buses and cycleways. Vote NO, and the investment, along with a weekday, peak time congestion charge, will be thrown out.

Debate

On Friday 21 Nov 2008, BBC Radio Manchester held a LIVE two-hour debate at the Cloud 23 Bar in the Beetham Tower chaired by presenter Allan Beswick.

Sir Richard Leese, Manchester’s council leader, put the case FOR a transport improvement plan funded by the C-charge. Blackley MP Graham Stringer argued  AGAINST.

An invited audience from both the YES and NO campaigns and other interested parties put their questions to the panel.
