Introducing… findlay_hunter_rennie

findlay_hunter_rennie are a trio of pioneers from Manchester's unsung experimental underground who are full of "razor sharp ideas, glistening soundscapes, soaring melodies and decomposed structures".

What we think:

"findlay_hunter_rennie is as experimental as it gets. Forget choruses, vocals or even recognisable song structures; theirs is an esoteric world of delicious cello sweeps, delicate dropped beats and warm, womb-like murmurs. It may not make sense to the conventional ear, but loosen the restraints on your cochlea and you might just find some ethereal treats."

Chris Long

Who’s in the band?

"Kate Findlay is the cellist, she studied music at Manchester University, specialising in composition. Anton Hunter is the guitarist and is a jazz musician. Tullis Rennie is the laptop-ist, who also studied at Manchester University, specialising in electroacoustic composition."

What type of music do we play?

"findlay_hunter_rennie emerge from Manchester 's unsung experimental underground, with a debut album brimming full of razor sharp ideas, glistening soundscapes, soaring melodies and decomposed structures.

"f_h_r play beautiful, uncompromising, challenging, engaging, warm, dark, contradictory, improvised music. Always live, always unpredictable, never planned. Cello meets guitar meets trombone meets laptop meets a lot of effects pedals..."

What’s the findlay_hunter_rennie story?

"findlay_hunter_rennie met in Manchester. Over the last year, we’ve been running The Noise Upstairs, a free-improv jam night, and performing as a trio."

How are things going?

"We’ve been busy recording with the help of some good friends! Our new album is available to download from Manchester’s experimental electronic label, Concrete Moniker; the download includes six track album, liner notes and exclusive cover artwork by Becca Smith."
