So what's the scale of child poverty where you live? For many people in Manchester, life is a constant financial struggle. And statistics show that the level of deprivation in some Manchester neighbourhoods is worse than almost anywhere else in the UK. ![]() In some areas, 99% of children live in poverty For instance, in parts of Bradford, Harpurhey and Hulme, 99% of children are officially 'income deprived.' (see definition below) According to a 2004 survey, 27 of Manchester’s 33 wards are among the most deprived 10% of wards nationally, with one neighbourhood in the Harpurhey ward considered to be the second poorest in the country.
