Introducing… Becca and the Broken Biscuits

Becca and the Broken Biscuits came about on a rainy day over a pint and make "kinda folk, kinda blues, kinda pop, kinda beautiful, kinda tongue-in-cheek" 'folkestra' music.

What we think:

"Becca's songs have always been sweet treats, but with the added dimension of the Broken Biscuits, particularly Anna’s heartbreaking cello, they have become that little bit more special. This is grown-up, thoughtful, emotional music that cuts to your heart and feeds your soul and it is simply beautiful."

Chris Long

Who's in the band?

"Well, there's me – Becca - playing guitar and doing main vocals. Then there's Broken Biscuit one, Tracey Browne, on keys, wind organ, xylophone, vocals and various odd instruments, and finally Broken Biscuit two, Anna Stuart, on cello. It's an all girl line-up, which makes a pretty sound!"

What type of music do you play?

"Kinda folk, kinda blues, kinda pop, kinda beautiful, kinda tongue-in-cheek. Has been described as 'folkestra' - that being folk-cum-orchestra; I like it as a description."

What’s the Becca And The Broken Biscuits story?

"I am from North Wales - a little town called Caerwys to be precise - and moved to Manchester five years ago after university.

"Tracey has been a best mate for a while now and we met each other on the circuit. She's from Cambridge and is a singer-songwriter as well as a producer and sound engineer. We decided one rainy day over a pint that we may as well join forces to see what happened and out came 'Becca and the Broken Biscuits'!

"Anna, the cellist, is a student at the RNCM, originally from London, and we met at a gig where she was playing for another band. We got chatting, loved her playing, she's fantastic and asked if she'd be interested in joining us. The rest is history, though not much of it as we’ve only been together for a few months."

How are things going?

"It’s a funny one really, as we are still only in the process of getting the set together for our debut show at Retro Bar in July.

"I have been gigging as Becca Williams for quite some time and have played all over Manchester at many, many, many gigs, as well as throughout the UK.

"I have appeared on Channel M's 'City Centre Social' a couple of times as well as on BBC Radio Manchester playing live and many other radio shows throughout the North West.

"It's been great to play solo but the band thing is long over due and I can't wait to get out there and get it heard. Watch this space, we're on our way to a venue near you!"
