The Mouse Outfit
Introducing… The Mouse Outfit
Fronted by twins and taking their inspiration from soul, hip hop, funk, reggae and jazz, The Mouse Outfit are "quickly gaining a reputation amongst the movers and shakers of Manchester".
What we think:
"The Mouse Outfit are just crying out to be loved – their luscious interweaving vocals drip from the type of smooth, satisfying soul-funk that makes your heart and your hips brim over with joy. Without a hint of hyperbole, they are worthy successors to Aim and Mr Scruff with the potential of standing shoulder to shoulder with both of those artists."
Who is in the band?
"Abi Wyles on vocals, Sophie Wyles on vocals, Paul Hooley on keys, James Defty on bass, Ben Hope on drums and Diego Prato on guitar."
What type of music do you play?
"We’re still developing our sound, but take our influences from soul, hip hop, funk, reggae and jazz."
What’s The Mouse Outfit story?
"In the summer of 2007, twins Abi and Sophie were spotted singing a Chaka Khan a capella at a tiny festival in Croatia by bass player James Defty.
"He moved to Manchester and, by chance, bumped into the girls at one of the Friends and Family club nights.
"With keys player Paul Hooley and drummer Ben Hope, the group began to pen their first tunes. The songs were there, but something was still missing. Whatever that was, guitarist Diego Prato brought it with him to the first rehearsal."
How are things going?
"The band is still in its infancy, with just two full gigs - one with Kwinzola, the other with Blowout - and a few acoustic performances under its belt, but is quickly gaining a reputation amongst the movers and shakers of Manchester, lining up gigs with some of the city’s biggest soul, funk and hip hop names in 2008."
