Chatting to the Cat

From Moss Side boy to Mancunian musical great, Barry Adamson’s road to the top has been a long and winding one, taking in everything from movie soundtracks to gothic punk.

As he arrived in Manchester to play here solo for the first time, he joined BBC Radio Manchester’s Karen Gabay on The People to talk about that extraordinary career.

During the course of the chat, Barry discussed his nerves at his first ever solo show in Manchester, the years he spent with Howard Devoto in Magazine and Nick Cave in The Bad Seeds, the leap he made from bass player to soundtrack composer, and his glowering 1989 debut opus, ‘Moss Side Story’.

He also talked about his new album, ‘Back To The Cat’, discussing the inspirations behind the songs and the process that he uses to compose and record.

Barry Adamson’s ‘Back To The Cat’ is out now on Central Control
