Alan lends a hand

The ground beneath his feet

Ahead of the world premiere of an orchestral performance of Salman Rushdie's novel The Ground Beneath Her Feet, actor Alan Rickman talks about why he took on the role of narrator.

Described as the greatest rock and roll novel, Rushdie's mythological story of celebrity and love has been transformed into a full-length concert piece.

Performed by the Hallé orchestra and directed by Mike Figgis, the production will be narrated by Rickman, who started his own acting career at the Library Theatre in Manchester.

He spoke to Natalie Anglesey, from BBC Radio Manchester's The Show Show, about the performance and what's in store for him in the future.

Another new role

Alan also had a quick chat with BBC Radio Manchester presenter Phil Wood at the after show party for Monkey: Journey to the West. But this time, it was the actor who was left holding the microphone!
