Peregrine falcon: 2007 diary

The 2007 diary following the Manchester peregrine falcons and their chicks who hatched and fledged from a nest in the city centre. Written by staff and volunteers of the RSPB:

October 2007

So what has happened to Phoenix? Well, after his release from the top of the Town Hall at the end of September, a juvenile has been seen regularly around the area and we believe it to be Phoenix.

It's thought Phoenix injured himself last month flying into a window in the city centre but recovered well at a bird sanctuary near Rochdale. Hopefully he has learnt from his adventures last month and is less keen to admire his reflection in windows!

You may have seen the RSPB back in exchange square on Saturday the 27th which was national Feed The Birds Day. We had two sightings of a juvenile peregrine and spoke to lots of people about the need to feed the birds over the winter.

The RSPB has just launched a new initiative - Homes for Wildlife. Sign up and you will get ongoing tailored advice to help the wildlife in your garden (www.rspb.org.uk/hfw).
