A Metrolink tram Metrolink: track closuresLATEST (23 July 2007): The whole of the Bury line through to Victoria is completely closed for seven weeks until 12 September to allow worn-out track to be replaced. Print out the official timetable of closures: The work is part of a £100m refurbishment of the tram system, which includes replacing nearly 20 miles of worn out track on the Bury - Altrincham line. Metrolink 2007 closuresThe BBC is not responsible for the content of external websites Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive (GMPTE) say the work is necessary as some of the track is more than 50 years old. And they're promising a quieter, smoother ride once it's completed. Replacement bus services will be in operation over the period. Services on the Eccles line should not be affected by the work. ![]() Metrolink timetable Bury line - closures:The work to replace track on the Bury Metrolink line is due to begin on Tuesday 29 May and to be completed by Wednesday 12 September. Trams will continue to run between Whitefield and Manchester until Wednesday 20 June, and between Crumpsall and Manchester until Sunday 22 July. The whole of the Bury line, from Bury to Manchester Victoria, will be closed for approximately seven weeks from Monday 23 July. Altrincham line - closures:Work on the Altrincham line is scheduled to start on Monday 2 July and to be finished by Monday 27 August. Trams will continue to run between Old Trafford and Manchester until Thursday 26 July. The whole of the Altrincham line, between Altrincham and Cornbrook, will be closed for one month from Friday 27 July.
