Clashing with the Antidote

There’s nothing like a mixing pot of bands to bring fun to a night’s proceedings and that’s exactly what the Eastpak Antidote tour is bringing to Manchester. We spoke to one of the bands, Bedouin Soundclash, about the show and their music.

Is life still as hectic as ever in Bedouin Soundclash?

The Eastpak Antidote tour

  • The Eastpak Antidote tour features Gogol Bordello, Bedouin Soundclash, Danko Jones and Disco Ensemble
  • The show is at the Academy on Fri 3 Nov. Tickets are £14

"Yes. We haven't stopped touring since our UK headlining tour back in January - so it’s been a busy year, to say the least!"

Your new record is called Street Gospels. Where does the name come from?

"We are definitely the odd band out on this tour, in the sense that the other three bands all share a high-energy rock vibe."
Bedouin Soundclash don't mind being the outsiders!

"Jay's songwriting on this album in particular was influenced by a lot of old gospel and calypso music. The name 'street gospels' is, I think, a reflection of those new songs, and what those influences bring to our sound."

You stuck out 12:59 Lullaby recently. What's that track about?

"The song is about being far from home, and missing certain things, certain relationships that are tied to home."

How is the new record coming on?

"The new record is coming along well. We've already recorded 12 songs.  After this tour, we are going back to Toronto - Jay has a few more songs he has written so we plan to rehearse and arrange the new songs, and record them in January. The record will be released in early spring 2007 and we're really excited for people to hear it."

You're playing here with Danko Jones, Gogol Bordello and Disco Ensemble. What do you think of them?

"They all put on intense live shows. We are definitely the odd band out on this tour, in the sense that the other three bands, in different ways, all share a high-energy rock vibe. So far, one of the highlights on the UK leg of the tour has been DJ Scratchy spinning between the bands - he's been spinning amazing music all night."
